Who they are

The Morari, also called Moraori or Marori, live in Wasur, about 20 km east of Merauke, in Indonesian Papua. They make a living by fishing and gathering food in the swamps near the coast, and fish and sago, a starchy food obtained from a palm tree, are their staple foods. The Marori language is severely endangered, and Indonesian is increasingly used. There is a church in Wasur, and many residents identify as Christians.
