Mordóvios Moksha
The Mordvin Moksha belong to the Finno-Ugric language family and have their roots in the forests and plains of the Volga River basin. Known for their rich folk tradition, polyphonic music, and intricate embroidery, they maintain a deep appreciation for the land and the memory of their ancestors.
Although many families continue to live in rural villages preserving ancient customs, modern life and ongoing contact with urban society create challenges for the preservation of the Moksha language among the younger generations.

Agriculture and livestock raising still sustain community life in rural areas, supplemented by small garden plots and craftsmanship in wood and textiles. Mutual aid among neighbors is common during planting and harvest seasons. In cities, families integrate into industrial and commercial routines while maintaining ties with their ancestral villages.
Most of the people historically identify with the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition. In parallel, ancient folk practices tied to the cycles of nature and ancestral memory survive in many villages. For the majority, faith serves as an element of cultural identity without necessarily entailing biblical study or personal commitment to Jesus.

Rural communities face isolation, the departure of young people in search of education, and the decline of the daily use of their mother tongue. Spiritually, there is a need for discipleship that touches the heart and demonstrates the grace of the gospel without demanding the abandonment of their cultural identity.
