People
Who they are
The Ngae, who call themselves Nkriang, live in southern Laos, in the provinces of Xekong, Saravan and Champasak, in villages they share with other peoples, such as the Suay, Lao and Alak. They weave on backstrap looms, attached to the body by a strap, and use dyes obtained from tree bark and fruit. Their textile designs feature animals, people and even airplanes. Most follow traditional beliefs, and Christians form a small minority.
