Who they are
The Nggwahyi live in Askira-Uba, in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. They speak a Chadic language also known as Ngwaxi, whose survival is threatened. Most are Muslims, but a substantial group follows traditional religions, and there is a small Christian minority. According to reports, Boko Haram violence has affected their communities: some children have been abducted and villages burned.
