Who they are
The Nissi, also called Nyishi, live mainly in Arunachal Pradesh, in northeastern India, with smaller groups in Assam. They grow rice and other food crops on hilly, rocky land. Men make baskets and metal tools, and women weave cloth to sell. Their traditional religion includes the sun, the moon and ancestral spirits, and a large share of the people identify as Christians. Good farmland is scarce.
