Who they are

The Northwest Maidu, also traditionally known as the Konkow, are an Indigenous people from the valleys and hills of northern California in the United States. Historically connected to the region’s rivers and oak woodlands, they experienced profound disruption during the gold rush. Today, the community seeks to preserve its rich cultural heritage, oral traditions, and identity amid modern challenges.
