People
The Nyanga-Li live in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Watsa Territory, southwest of the town of Watsa. They speak Nyanga-Li, also called Linyanga-Le, a Bantu language. Gbati-Ri, or Gbote, is a variety of the same language, spoken between Isiro and Watsa. Despite the similar name, Nyanga-Li is not the Nyanga language. Ethnologue classifies Nyanga-Li as moribund, a category used when only older people still speak the language.

The vast majority of the Nyanga-Li identify as Christian, and some follow traditional religions. Evangelicals make up a smaller proportion of Christians.
The Nyanga-Li language is at risk of disappearing: according to Ethnologue, only older people still speak it. For Christian teaching to reach families, churches therefore need to use the language each generation actually understands.
