People
Who they are
The Turi Pashtuns inhabit mainly the Kurram Valley in northwestern Pakistan. They are distinguished from most Pashtun groups by their historic adherence to Shia Islam in a predominantly Sunni region. Strongly attached to family honor and their mountains, they preserve a cohesive tribal identity, shaped by the Pashtun cultural code and the Pashto language.
