Who they are
The Phimbi live in Tete Province, Mozambique, along the banks of the Zambezi River, northwest of the city of Tete, and grow food for their own needs. Their language originated in Marávia District. Most follow traditional religions, but a substantial proportion are Christians, mainly Catholics and Protestants from historic denominations. In 2024, the translation team held two workshops and began recording the first biblical texts in Phimbi.
