Who they are

The Pira-tapuia are an Indigenous people who live along the rivers of the Uaupés and upper Negro River basins, on the border between Brazil and Colombia. Also traditionally known as wa’ikhana, they belong to the Eastern Tukanoan language family and preserve an identity deeply connected to the waters, the forest, and their ancestral memories.
