Who they are
The Santiago Lapaguía Zapotec are an Indigenous people originally from the mountains of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Heirs to one of Mesoamerica’s oldest civilizations, they keep their distinct language variety alive and preserve rich community traditions. Life in their mountain villages is shaped by family farming, cooperative work, and deep respect for the history of their ancestors.
