Os sapuan são uma comunidade indígena do ramo linguístico mon-khmer que habita áreas remotas do sul do Laos, especialmente nas proximidades do planalto de Bolaven. Preservam sua língua materna e ricas tradições orais, vivendo da agricultura de subsistência e do cultivo da terra. Sua identidade é fortemente moldada pelos costumes ancestrais e pelo respeito aos espíritos da natureza, em aldeias cercadas por densas florestas tropicais.
