The Sar make their living from farming and live in permanent villages. They grow millet, sorghum, cassava, peanuts and yams, and raise goats, sheep and chickens. Houses are usually built of mud bricks with thatched roofs. Clans organize family life, and beliefs and customs blend Christian, Muslim and traditional practices.
Most Sar identify as Christian, and there are also Muslims and followers of traditional religion. Ancestors remain highly respected, and many people blend traditional practices with the Christian faith. Churches need Sar leaders who are well equipped to teach the Bible and support Christians.

Sar communities lack clean water, health clinics, electricity and school supplies, and there are few well-trained teachers. Many families need care for mothers and children and better farming techniques. Literacy education is needed. Christians lack materials for teaching the faith and local leaders trained to teach the Bible.
