The Sardinian Tempiese live in the historical region of Gallura, at the northern tip of the island of Sardinia, Italy. They are linguistically distinct from other inhabitants of the island by speaking Gallurese, an Italo-Dalmatian language with strong historical ties to southern Corsican, rather than standard Sardinian.
With a deep attachment to local traditions, polyphonic music, and the community life of the small stone towns at the foot of Mount Limbara, this people preserves a unique cultural heritage, maintaining profound pride in their roots and artistic expression.

Historically organized around the stazzo, a traditional rural model of self-sufficient smallholdings, the Tempiese developed close neighborhood ties and family cooperation. Today, the economy combines tourism along the nearby coast, cork forestry, the cultivation of Vermentino vineyards, and small-scale granite processing industries. Local cuisine, centered on rustic pastas and sheep’s milk cheeses, remains an essential gathering point for families.
Religious heritage is predominantly Roman Catholic, deeply interwoven with feast days, village patron saint celebrations, and rural traditions passed down through generations. However, for many, religious observance is largely cultural and traditional, accompanied by growing secularism among younger generations and limited direct biblical knowledge.
