Who they are
The Subanen Lapuyan are an Indigenous people who inhabit the mountainous areas and river valleys of the Zamboanga Peninsula on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. The name Subanen traditionally means people of the river. They preserve ancestral customs, a strong connection to the land, and a rich oral tradition, maintaining their cultural identity amid the region’s economic and social changes.
