Who they are
The Sukur live in the Mandara Mountains in northeastern Nigeria, in Adamawa State and also in Borno. In the village of Sukur, families farm terraces on the hillsides and maintain stone paths and houses; furnaces from past iron production still remain. The Hidi, the community’s chief, has political and religious duties. Most people follow traditional religions, with Christian and Muslim minorities.
