Who they are
The Taklimakan Uyghurs form a small, remote Uyghur community living along the edges of the Taklimakan Desert and in oases deep within it, in northwestern China. Isolated by the arid environment, they preserve traditional customs and a strong cultural identity rooted in the Uyghur language and Islam. They face the harsh desert climate and almost complete geographical isolation.
