Who they are

The Tanana are an Indigenous Athabaskan people living in interior Alaska, with historical ties to the banks and tributaries of the Tanana River. Their deeply rooted identity reflects survival in the subarctic climate through hunting and salmon fishing. Although contact throughout their history has brought outside influences, they keep their communal roots alive, facing the challenge of preserving ancestral traditions while seeking lasting hope for new generations.
