Who they are

The Tapirapé, who call themselves Apyãwa, are an Indigenous people belonging to the Tupi-Guarani language family who live in the lowlands of northeastern Mato Grosso, Brazil. Known for their featherwork, ceremonial rituals, and circular village layouts, they have overcome severe population crises in the past and carefully preserve their culture, native language, and strong connection to the forests and rivers of the Araguaia region.
