Who they are

The Tembé are an Indigenous people of the Tupi-Guarani family who inhabit forested areas between Pará and Maranhão in northern Brazil. Custodians of a rich cultural tradition, they preserve their ancestral relationship with the land and waters while facing the pressures of outside contact and seeking to strengthen their communal and linguistic identity.
