The Thao are one of the smallest recognized indigenous peoples of Taiwan, with historical roots around the shores of Sun Moon Lake. Over generations, they have faced strong cultural and linguistic pressure from the surrounding Han society. Although the majority profess the Christian faith, they continue to struggle to preserve their community identity and ancestral customs.
