People
Who they are
The Tongwe are a Bantu people who inhabit the hills and forests of western Tanzania, near Lake Tanganyika. Traditionally connected to subsistence farming, fishing, and hunting, they preserve their mother tongue and strong community ties. Although Islam shapes much of public life, ancestral beliefs remain part of families’ daily routines.
