Who they are

The Tupinambá are an Indigenous people historically connected to Brazil’s coast, whose identity and collective memory have endured centuries of dispersal and forced assimilation. Today, with communities organized mainly in southern Bahia, they firmly uphold their ancestral heritage and defend their lands. Although they use Portuguese in daily life, they maintain their own rituals and a deep spiritual connection to their territory.
