Unreached people group
The Udmurt people are a native Finno-Ugric group who traditionally inhabit the region between the Kama and Vyatka rivers, near the Ural Mountains in Russia. Known for their expressive choral music, traditional costumes, and deep connection with the forests and agriculture, they maintain a distinct identity within the Russian Federation.
Although many currently reside in industrial cities, attachment to the villages and the preservation of their ancestral language remain essential hallmarks of their way of life and community bonds.

Historically dedicated to agriculture, beekeeping, and livestock raising, the Udmurt value cooperative work and community life. In the villages, families preserve traditional dishes such as perepech, a customary pie baked in a wood-fired oven, and celebrate seasonal festivals linked to the harvest. In the cities, many work in industry and services, where they face the pressure of cultural assimilation and the challenge of passing ancestral customs and values to their children.
A large part of the population formally identifies with Orthodox Christianity, which was established over the centuries. However, pre-Christian animistic traditions remain deeply rooted in popular spirituality. Respect for nature deities and ceremonies in sacred groves still take place in several rural communities. The understanding of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ is still rare among the majority.

Many villages suffer from economic isolation, a lack of opportunities for young people, and the painful impact of alcoholism on families. In addition to social challenges and pressure on their native language, there is a profound need for spiritual hope. The few evangelical churches need encouragement, appropriate resources, and maturity to disciple their own people with love and relevance.
Intercede for this people alongside Christians around the world.
