People
Who they are
The Uduk call themselves Kwanim Pa and originate from eastern Sudan. Today they live in Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, with a small number also living in the United States. The Sudanese civil war forced many to leave their lands and seek refuge in neighboring countries, especially Ethiopia; the first displacement of the Uduk took place in 1987. There are Christians and Muslims among them, but traditional religions remain the most influential.
