People
The Verre live mainly in Adamawa State, in northeastern Nigeria, in the Yola and Fufore areas, and also in northern Cameroon. There are communities in the Verre Hills and on the plains south of Yola.
The people are also known as Vere and Duru-Verre. Their artistic tradition includes working with copper-based metals. Hausa is used to communicate with other peoples in the region.

Verre families live in fenced groups of houses, known as compounds, in rural areas. In accounts from 1927 by the anthropologist C. K. Meek, disputes were usually settled by respected elders, who were also religious leaders.
In Nigeria, traditional religions have the largest following among the Verre, and there are also Muslims and Christians. An anthropological study observed that older Verre tended to follow traditional beliefs, while Islam and Christianity attracted more young people. Among the Verre of Cameroon, most identify as Christians.

Only portions of the Scriptures are available in Verre; the New Testament has not yet been translated. Christian communities need more books of the Bible in their own language and people trained to teach the Bible.
