Who they are

The Votians are one of the oldest indigenous peoples of the historical region of Ingria, in northwestern Russia. Belonging to the Finno-Ugric family, they preserve traditional rural customs and a rich folkloric memory, although their culture and native language face a severe risk of extinction due to historical assimilation over the centuries.
