Who they are
The Warekena are an Indigenous people whose traditional homeland lies along the banks of the Xié River and nearby areas in the upper Rio Negro basin, on the border between Brazil and Venezuela. With an Arawakan linguistic heritage, they hold a deep knowledge of the Amazon’s rivers and forests. Today, they share community life with neighboring ethnic groups while preserving their rich cultural identity.
