Family farming provides the basis of daily subsistence in the villages. Families grow corn, beans and squash on steep slopes, while also producing colorful traditional textiles and finely crafted goods. Local markets are at the heart of social and economic life, bringing the community together for trade and fellowship. Extended families share daily responsibilities and communal celebrations.
Most profess the Christian faith, with a strong presence of both Catholic and evangelical communities. However, ancestral Maya rites and invocations of nature spirits remain part of everyday life for many residents. This religious syncretism means that traditional ceremonies often coexist with church services and sacraments, calling for more deeply rooted biblical discipleship.

The region faces rural poverty, a lack of basic healthcare and scarce employment opportunities, forcing many young people to migrate. Spiritually, there is a great need for in-depth discipleship and the training of leaders who understand the Scriptures in their own language, moving beyond superficial religious practices.
