Who they are
The Xijima are a subgroup of Yi heritage located in Yunnan Province, southwestern China. Over centuries of coexistence with the Han majority, they adopted Mandarin in their daily lives and assimilated many neighboring customs. Even so, they keep their identity alive through traditional dances, community festivities, and strong kinship ties. Their religious practices combine ancestor respect with Daoist influences, while younger generations grow up in a distinctly secular environment.
