Who they are
The Yali Angguruk live in the highlands of Papua, Indonesia, in the Angguruk region. The Yali themselves distinguish four language regions, and Angguruk is one of them. The German missionary Siegfried Zöllner lived with them in Angguruk from 1961 to 1973 and, with his wife Ilse, gathered material for a dictionary of the language. Most identify as Christian, while a substantial minority follows traditional religions.
