The 2026 World Cup, with matches from June 11 to July 19 in Canada, Mexico and the United States, presents a historic opportunity for evangelism. An estimated 1.2 million visitors from 216 nations and territories will be in the US during the tournament. John Pudaite of Bibles for the World says: "This provides an enormous opportunity for evangelism. In essence, the US will see the whole world visit during that month of World Cup matches."

Churches across the country are making the most of the opportunity through coordinated efforts. Believers are organizing watch parties in their churches and homes, opening their doors to the community and out-of-town visitors. In host cities such as Seattle, Washington, churches have joined an evangelism network called "Victory Seattle," led by Pastor Jesse Bradley, a former professional soccer goalkeeper.

Bibles for the World is providing Gospels of John, Bibles, New Testaments and keychains with QR codes that offer access to Scripture in more than 2,000 languages through the YouVersion app. For visitors from countries closed to the gospel, this may be their only encounter with the Bible in their lifetime. "They may be coming thinking they are going to watch soccer matches, but they may actually be coming to meet Jesus face to face," Pudaite says.

Pray for believers going out into the streets and stadiums, that they will be strong in faith. Pray that those hosting watch parties will have a meaningful opportunity to present the gospel, and that visitors will be open to Christ. May this World Cup be remembered not only for the goals scored, but for the souls reached for the kingdom of God.
