Who they are
The Alege live in the Obudu area of Cross River State, Nigeria. A study published in 2019 recorded the use of their language in homes, markets and churches, in a community that also uses English, Nigerian Pidgin and Bette. Most identify as Christians, while a minority follow traditional religions. Evangelicals make up a smaller share of the people.
