Who they are
The Alorese mainly inhabit the coastal areas of the Alor and Pantar archipelago in eastern Indonesia. Unlike most neighboring groups in the mountainous interior, they retain a language of Austronesian origin. Traditionally engaged in coastal fishing and trade between islands, they maintain strong community ties and an identity deeply connected to the sea.
