People
Who they are
The Bakwele live in the Republic of the Congo, Gabon, and Cameroon, in Central Africa. Also known as Kwele, they speak a Bantu language. Descent through the father’s line plays an important role in family organization. Most identify as Christian, but some follow traditional beliefs. Among the Bakwele of Cameroon, the Evangelical presence is smaller.
