Who they are

The Bamu are an Indigenous people living along the riverbanks and in the river deltas of southwestern Papua New Guinea. Living in communities closely connected to the rivers and mangrove forests, they maintain a deep relationship with the waters on which they depend for their daily sustenance and transportation. Community life is marked by strong kinship ties and the oral transmission of ancestral customs and values.
