The Chiltepec Chinantec are a small indigenous group originating from the state of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico. Connected to the fertile, mountainous lands of the Papaloapan River basin, they retain a rich cultural heritage amid pressures of assimilation. Today, much of the community has adopted Spanish in daily life while seeking to preserve their agricultural traditions, family bonds, and communal memory.
