The peoples who identify with the former Yugoslavia share a South Slavic cultural heritage shaped by decades of coexistence and common historical ties. Although the federation broke apart in the 1990s, many families maintain an identity that transcends the recently established borders, speaking varieties of Serbian and related languages.
Today, many live in the Balkans, while others are scattered in immigrant communities across Europe and around the world. They carry memories of profound political transition, a commitment to community solidarity and a search for stability in new social settings.

Community life and family play a central role. Everyday life is marked by hospitality, the habit of gathering relatives and neighbors for a leisurely coffee, and traditional foods such as rustic breads and grilled meats.
Many work in industry, construction and services in the cities where they have settled. Older generations preserve regional songs and memories, while younger people integrate into modern urban settings, retaining the value of mutual support among relatives.
Most identify historically with Orthodox or Catholic Christianity, but decades of secularism have weakened everyday religious practice. Religious affiliation often serves as a marker of cultural and family identity rather than active devotion. Few have had access to biblical discipleship that presents the grace of Christ in a vibrant and accessible way.
A people only truly understands the gospel when they hear it in the language of their heart. See how far the translation has come.

Memories of conflict and the loss of possessions and loved ones still cause unspoken pain that calls for forgiveness and lasting reconciliation. There is a lack of genuine relationships that point to spiritual hope, as well as a need for welcoming communities where people can encounter the gospel in a personal and transformative way.
