People
The Guduf live in northeastern Nigeria, in the Gwoza Hills of Borno State, and also in Cameroon. Guduf is a village east of the town of Gwoza, and the neighboring village of Gava speaks the same language, Guduf-Gava, which belongs to the Central Chadic language group. The founders of Guduf and Gava are remembered as two brothers, sons of the same father. The people call themselves Kdupaxa or Yaxmare, meaning “our people”.

In Nigeria, Islam is the religion of the majority, alongside followers of traditional religions and a Christian minority. In Cameroon, Muslims and Christians are the largest groups, and some people also follow traditional religions. Traditional belief acknowledges a creator God, but devotion is directed toward ancestors and spirits.

Those who follow traditional religions need to know the Creator as a loving Savior rather than a distant god. Believers in Jesus in Nigeria and Cameroon need teaching from the Scriptures in Guduf-Gava and ongoing guidance so that new disciples can grow and share their faith with their families.
