Who they are

The Iyatu live in the Iyayu neighborhood of the town of Idoani, in Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria. This neighborhood is one of the town’s six traditional communities. Iyayu, a language of the Edoid family, is spoken there, while the speech varieties of the other neighborhoods are closely related to Yoruba. Traditional religions predominate among the Iyatu, and some identify as Christians.
