Who they are
The Kompane are a small Indigenous community living in the Aru Islands region of the southern Moluccas in Indonesia. Traditionally making their living through fishing and the management of coastal and forest resources, they preserve their mother tongue in everyday family life. Although Islam shapes the cultural identity of the majority, there is a Christian presence woven into village life.
