Os lopi shuitian vivem no sudoeste da China, tradicionalmente dedicados ao cultivo de arroz em campos irrigados. Embora tenham assimilado boa parte dos costumes e o uso do mandarim da maioria ao seu redor, preservam um forte senso de identidade própria. Em meio a essas transformações, a grande maioria nunca teve a oportunidade de ouvir com clareza a mensagem do evangelho.
