Who they are

Christianity among the Ngomba coexists with traditional religious beliefs. This people group from Cameroon belongs to the Bamileke cultural group and speaks its own language from the west of the country, also known as Nda’a.

Language is an important part of Ngomba identity. There is a Ngomba, French, and English dictionary with more than two thousand words, which helps preserve the language.

How they live

Ngomba families eat mainly starchy roots and fruits, such as cassava, yams, and plantains. Few families raise animals, and much of their protein comes from hunting and fishing. Many now live in brick houses, replacing the old mud or thatch houses. Music and dance are part of everyday life.

What they believe

About three quarters of the Ngomba are Christians, but few are evangelicals. Traditional beliefs remain mixed with the Christian faith. Bible teaching and pastoral care need to take this reality into account, helping Christian families grow in their trust in Jesus.

Needs

The Ngomba need better access to medical care in the region. In churches, it is important to train people to teach Scripture in Ngomba and connect the biblical message with everyday life. Support for Christians should address their questions about illness, protection, and trust in God.
