Who they are
The Olonets Karelians, also called Livvi, are a Finno-Ugric people native to northwestern Russia, around Lake Ladoga. With their own language and customs, they possess a rich cultural heritage tied to life in the boreal forests and oral tradition. Historically linked to the Orthodox faith, they seek to preserve their linguistic and community identity in the face of contemporary changes and strong cultural assimilation.
