Many work in independent commerce, such as open-air street markets, mobile vending, construction, or artistic pursuits related to music. Weddings and family gatherings are celebrated with lengthy festivities marked by singing, dancing, and mutual solidarity.
The majority historically identify with Roman Catholicism, though religious practice is often expressed through devotion to specific saints and family traditions. In recent decades, many have joined Pentecostal evangelical movements, popularly known as el culto, which have transformed the social and moral fabric of entire neighborhoods, though the need for in-depth biblical discipleship remains real.
