Who they are
The Tacaneco are a Maya people living on the slopes and in the valleys near the Tacaná volcano, along the mountainous border between Guatemala and Mexico. Closely connected to the Mam language family, they preserve a strong community identity sustained by traditional agriculture and respect for their ancestral roots in the highlands of Mesoamerica.
