Cappadocia

Meaning
The name Cappadocia probably comes from the ancient Persian Katpatuka, meaning "land of beautiful horses," a region famous for breeding horses for the Persian army. In the New Testament it is an inland province of Asia Minor mentioned only in lists, connected to Jews of the diaspora and, later, to dispersed Christians whom the apostle Peter addressed in his letter.
About the place

Cappadocia was a mountainous region in the interior of Asia Minor, far from the sea, located today in central Turkey. The terrain was marked by high plateaus and volcanic formations.

In the New Testament it appears only twice, always in lists of peoples or provinces, never as the setting of a narrative. Even so, these two mentions show that the gospel had already reached this distant territory.

On the day of Pentecost, Jews from Cappadocia were among the crowd gathered in Jerusalem. They heard the apostles proclaiming the wonders of God in their own language, a sign that the good news would reach every nation.

Decades later, the apostle Peter wrote to the Christians scattered throughout Cappadocia and other neighboring provinces. He called them strangers and God’s chosen people, and encouraged them to stand firm amid suffering.

Cappadocia reminds us that not every important place in the Bible is the stage for great events. Sometimes what matters is that there, quietly, the gospel had already taken root.
