The Mekém are a small Indigenous people living in the Amazon region of the Brazilian state of Rondônia. With deep community ties and a strong connection to the forest, they keep their identity alive through their ancestral traditions. Ongoing contact with the surrounding society has brought challenges to their cultural survival and to passing their heritage on to younger generations.
