Who they are
The Naga Gongwang live in Lahe, in the Sagaing Region of Myanmar. They speak Naga Ponyo-Gongwang. Their speech is close to that of the Ponyo, although the two groups maintain distinct identities. The Gongwang variety has used a writing system based on the Latin alphabet since 2014. They began converting to Christianity in the 1970s, and today the vast majority identify as Christian, while a small minority follows traditional religions.
