People
The Ndendeule live in Namtumbo district in southern Tanzania, in mainly rural communities. Their language is a Bantu language closely related to Ngindo and Matengo. Farming is their main occupation.
In addition to Ndendeule, they speak Swahili, which they use in trade, education, religious worship and administration. Ndendeule is increasingly confined to conversations within the family.

Most Ndendeule can read and write in Swahili, but do not write in Ndendeule. Many see Swahili as the language of education and opportunity, and fewer young people adopt Ndendeule as their main language, even at home.
Traditional religions have the most followers among the Ndendeule. Christians are a minority and include Evangelicals. Swahili is used in religious worship, as well as in education and trade.
